Attendance Policy

If you are going to be absent, please let me know; also, if you're working on a group project, let the members of your group know. I don't need documentation of the reason. It's up to you to decide when you need to miss class for whatever reason; just remember that you may quickly lose track of the thread of classroom discussion, especially early on in the semester. And remember that there is no way that you or I can replace the learning that takes place during an active exchange of ideas among members of the class.
Please don't e-mail me to ask if you missed anything important. The most important things that happen in the classroom are the sparks that go off in your brain as you interact with class members about the course materials. I can't replace that in an e-mail. If you need information about assignments, check the course website to see if you can find the answer before you e-mail me. Usually, you can.
