"Masculinity in feminine occupations"
Although the title of this article would lead the reader to think the reading was about non- traditional gender roles, the reading actually centers on what it means to define masculinity. The author draws from several different theoretical frameworks before deciding on one working definition. It is obvious that it is their intention to use that definition of masculinity to describe men working in female-dominated occupations, but the excerpt of this scholarly work ends before the work's intended conclusion. This could prove to be an excellent transition to a classroom discussion because each individual would have to reach their own conclusions and not rely on the author. This would be an important reading for this course, especially considering the influx of elementary education double majors in the class, as teaching is one of the most female-dominated careers around. -L.P.
