Truesdell, John. Out at Work. "Kingdom Come: Gay Days at Disney World."
In this article, Truesdell argues that Walt Disney's image of wholesome family values covered his true feelings about people different from himself, like Blacks, Jews, and homosexuals. Additionally, Truesdell contends that this family image created problems for the Disney company even after Walt's death. Disney had to make decisions regarding gay rights for their employees as well as their guests. While Disney has not always made the best choices, Truesdell shows through an analysis of articles and interviews that they have helped with gay rights, even if it was only because it would benefit them monetarily. Although much of this article is focused on the affect of Gay Days at Disney, it does discuss homosexuality and work, specifically in regard to domestic partner benefits. There are many themes running through this piece, but it would be best used for its discussion on homosexuality and what it means to large corporations in terms of public image and profits. - C.D.
