Kaufmann, Cynthia--Ideas for Action: Relevant Theory for Radical Change
This reading explores different ways to get involved in activism, and talks about the author's personal experiences with various organizations. Much of it explores the history of movements from decades ago up through today. It also discusses some readings vital to the movements, and readings that furthered what people were striving to convey. It discusses not only women's organizations, such as NOW, but also people such as Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr, and black empowerment. Kaufmann concludes the text by saying that it is difficult for people to decide when and with what to get involved--that it is impossible to change everything all at once. She urges people not to lose sight of the fact that people committed to social justice, and their hard work, have made people's lives better, and urges this generation and coming generations to keep striving to continue this for years to come. -K.G.
