"Center for Women and Information Technology"

UMBC An Honors University in Maryland

"Center for Women and Information Technology" website from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) offers many resources about and for women in technology.   The website provides links to many books, films, programs, and courses devoted to women's studies and/or women in technology.   This site also provides lesson plans for teachers as well as other valuable resources.   In addition, the site provides a rationale that explains how the technology world is still male dominated.   The rationale states that the percentage of women obtaining computer science degrees has fallen steadily since 1979 (Korenman 1).   The rationale also mentions that if someone wishes to obtain information about women in technology, using search words of 'women' would send the user to porn sites (Korenman 1).   The information provided on this site is relevant to today's growing technological world, and offers many resources and support for women entering the technology field.   The site is easy to navigate and provides a 'site map' for easy access to information.   The author also provides information about women around the world, which is beneficial for young women entering the field.   I would recommend this site to any woman who is considering technology as a major or who has any interest in the field.
